We were recently talking about insulation and its "R" Value which is the ratio of temperature differences across or through insulation. The higher the "R" value the better the insulation.
Today let's talk about the "U-Factor" of windows or a window's "U" value. With windows the lower the "U"-factor the greater a window's resistance to heat passing through the glass.
High-performance double-pane windows have a U-Factor of 0.30 or lower and some of the Triple-Pane windows often go as low as 0.15.
Low U-Factor windows are most important is climates like Vermont where we focus more on heating than on air-conditioning.
