Last week we examined The Cape Cod, New England's quintessential style. Today we look at Modern Architecture which is obviously at the other end of an architectural continuum. Common themes of modern architecture include: 1) the notion that "Form follows function", meaning that the result of design should derive directly from its purpose. 2) simplicity and clarity of forms. 3) materials at 90 degrees to each other. 4) "Truth to materials", meaning that the true nature or natural appearance of a material ought to be seen rather than concealed. 5) a visual emphasis on horizontal and vertical lines. Modern architecture lends itself easily to Modular Homes. You know you'd rather have a modular!
