As you can see from the picture the crew is setting the forms in place for the concrete walls. These forms "hold" the concrete while it sets and hardens. This type of foundation is typical and very common throughout the Northeast United States as it provides enormous strength and durability. All foundations should be insulated as one component part of a well insulated and Energy Efficient home. This foundation and house will face Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains in the distance and a part of the foundation will be built out of a conventional Wood-Wall where it faces The Big Lake. This "Walk-Out" basement takes advantage of the sloping terrain. Again, this is fairly typical throughout Vermont.
