Obviously one of the most dangerous areas of any home is either the bathroom or the stairs. The other day we strongly advised you to get rid of bath mats in the bathroom so you don't fall. Today we take another look at the stairs. So far, we have suggested you install hand-rails on both sides of the stairs; obviously to eliminate falling. Today we are going to suggest you remove carpet from the stairs. It is far too easy to catch a toe or heal on carpet and fall down. If that carpet is on the stairs it is more dangerous. If you are planning of building a new home we strongly suggest you do not put carpet on the stairs. In addition to removing the staircase carpet consider providing soft lighting throughout the house so that nighttime mobility is easier. All of the Empty Next suggestions so far have been easy and very inexpensive to do. Vermont Modular wants you to be safe.
