Independence Above | Happy Canada Day
On July 1, 1867, Canada became a self-governing dominion of Great Britain and a federation of four provinces: Nova Scotia; New Brunswick; Ontario; and Quebec. The anniversary of this date was called Dominion Day until 1982. Since 1983, July 1 has been officially known as Canada Day. (1)
Both Dave and I want to wish our friends in Canada a happy and safe Canada Day.
Another day observed in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on July 1st each year is Memorial Day. It is a special tribute to those veterans of the province, with a focus on World War I veterans.
The Union Flag, also known as the Union Jack, may be seen flying at half staff on Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador.(2)
To our friends above, Dave and I both wish you a peaceful and joyous day.
