Usually, when you look at a child, one of the thoughts that can be attached is innocence. As a child, you don't have the ability to comprehend big world problems. As a child, your biggest fear is what's under your bed or in your closet when you go to sleep at night. In many ways, I'm sure I can speak for myself on this, it would be nice if that really was the case again.
But, everyone needs to grow up at some point, and reality sets in, and next thing you know, that innocence is lost. It's a sad point where you go from big dreams like "I want to be an astronaut" and "I want to travel the world" to something a bit more grounded in reality, such as "I need to work to pay the bills" or "I have my own children to take care of". But what was lost as a child I would argue is never really lost. I'll prove my point.
You are getting ready to build a house, right? Right! What are you feeling? Do you see where I'm going with this yet? YES! Your inner child is screaming out to be free, and wants to run circles in the room. There's a reason for that, and it's because your inner child - that innocence that you "lost" - you never actually lost. It might have been suppressed for a while, but it's back now. Embrace it, enjoy it, and run free with it. You should be excited about your new house. It's a dream, much like flying in space as a kid. The situation is different, but the reaction and feelings are identical.
So my advice is really quite simple: Enjoy the process, understand nothing is ever perfect, make it what YOU want it to be, and don't be afraid of the darkness under your bed at night. Experiment with new and creative ideas which will become your new home. Don't second guess your gut feeling, because guess what; that gut feeling is your inner child, that innocence, begging to play again.
Fear of the unknown is natural, and has been with you since the day you were born. But that fear doesn't have to stop you from making your dream come true. And much like a parent does for their children, we are also here to guide you through the unknown. You don't know how to build a house to get the house of your dreams. Just like as a child, you didn't know how to fly a rocket ship, but your mind was in outer space and free. Don't let fear hold you back, embrace your innocence and step forward, confident that we will be with you every step of the way.
