The other day we talked about a Heat Pump Hot Water Heater and how it can easily save you $4,000 over the life of the heater. Honestly, that is something you should seriously look into and see if it can fit in your plans.
Replacing the Hot Water Heater is one of the most expensive items we will mention to you. Remember we want to make a big difference and have it be cheap. The Heat Pump water heater makes a huge difference in your energy bill and your overall energy costs. Unfortunately it isn’t cheap to buy.
Today’s idea for your hot water is cheap and it does make a big difference. Down in the basement is the hot water heater and it gets upstairs to the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry via some kind of pipe.
Here’s what I want you to do. Go to the lumber yard or Big Box store and buy foam insulation, it comes in 3 or 4 foot lengths and “snaps” around the pipe and poof the pipe is insulated. This is a super easy and super cheap process. (Check out today’s picture and you will see the NONE of the pipes are insulated.)
Which pipes do you insulate?
- Do you insulate the hot water pipes? YES, that will save on your energy bill as it keeps the heat from escaping.
- Do you insulate the cold water pipes? YES, that will keep the pipe from sweating in the summer heat; this keeps things nice and dry.
Quick! Easy! Cheap! Big difference! Wow, this is a fantastic idea.
