Are there trending designs in the kitchen?

Yesterday we looked at Front Porches and how they are a trending feature in great demand.  It seems as though everyone wants their home to have a front porch and on a beautiful day like today that isn’t hard to imagine.

But, sooner or later the folks are going to want something to eat, something from the kitchen.  Do you know that many designers consider The Kitchen to be the heart of a home?

Let’s look at today’s photograph and I’ll try to point out some of the most popular features:

  1. Contrasting colors in the cabinets.  In this kitchen the area immediately around the sink shows Espresso Colored Cabinetry.
  2. The second color of the cabinets is a soft “Off-White,” probably a Chiffon that is most definitely white but a softer version of white.
    • Did you know?  Do you realize that about 70% of all kitchens have White Cabinetry?
    • See why the shade of white is so important
  3. The overall style of the cabinet doors is a Shaker Style first created by The Shakers of 19th century America, they were widely known for a clean look to their designs.  Did you realize that at one point there were roughly six-thousand Shakers and today only two remain alive?
  4. Stainless Steel or Brushed Nickel drawer pulls.  This style of pull is extremely popular as one of the most tending features of a modern kitchen
  5. Counter Tops come is two major categories:
    • Solid Surface – today’s picture shows a solid surface counter top that is made of stone.  There are numerous types of stone from natural Granite to manufactures Corian and Crystal and many others.
    • Laminate – these are the “Formica” types of laminate counter tops.
  6. Kitchen sinks – today you are looking at an “Under-Mount” sink that is fastened to the underside of the counter top.  This has become the most trending style!

See how many different things there are to consider when deigning a kitchen.  And think, we haven’t even touched on the layout of the cabinets and appliances.  Let’s save that for another day.

What do you think of the trending styles?
