Take a long and thorough look at today’s energy!

For the past several days we have attended the 2017 Better Buildings by Design conference in Burlington.  This is “…..the region’s premier design and construction conference, which features interactive learning about building durability, efficiency,….” sponsored by Efficiency Vermont.

For the next couple days I’ll highlight particular portions of what I took away from this conference to provide you with an insight as to what is going on in Vermont as far as Energy Conservation and Efficiency.

Santa will arrive “down the chimney.” Is it clean?

Earlier today Vermont Modular posted a beautiful picture showing the nostalgia associated with sitting by the fireplace.  The picture’s caption said, “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

There is another part of the fireplace that is often neglected.  Ask yourself this, “…when was the last time you had the chimney cleaned?”

Window effectiveness depends on………….

In previous blog posts we have talked about R-Values that measure how effective at blocking Heat Loss the exterior wall of your home.  The “R” in R-Value refers to the insulation’s Resistance to heat loss.  Therefore, the greater the resistance the better the insulation is performing and that translates to the higher the R-Value the better.  High Score wins.

House Wrap Continued

Yesterday we talked about using House Wrap as a way of stopping the wind penetration along with preventing water from entering the exterior wall.  House Wrap which is known by a series of brand names is an amazing product that is used widely in quality built homes.  As you wander around you probably see it being used all the time.

Wrap up the house

Today we are going to take a short tangent to explain one of the most common techniques out there for stopping Cold Air Penetration.

It seems as though virtually every building that is built goes up and then the entire structure is wrapped with “House Wrap.”  Most of the time it appears as though the house all covered up with some sort of cloth – not quite!

Winterizing your home!

It seems as though local print media along with TV and radio are all broadcasting information about how you should proceed to make your home more energy efficient.  All this as winter slowly creeps up on us.

Over the next couple weeks or months we will make an effort to show you those things that are easy, effective and cheap.  We will also point out those helpful things that despite being helpful make absolutely no sense.

How about saving a lot of money!

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has just recently published their predictions for financial savings as America conforms to contemporary Energy Codes.

As all of you know Vermont Modular continually talks about Energy Efficiency, savings money, not contributing to Global Warming, doing the right thing for our Environment.  These are all key Core Values of Vermont Modular.

As winter approaches the phone rings! Where were you?

This fall Vermont Modular has become a very busy place.  Last week we ordered a big house for central Vermont and as we speak there are two homes in the plant being built.

It seems as though all summer long people are “…at the beach” enjoying summer in Vermont.  But, just in case you haven’t noticed the leaves are turning and almost everyone has turned on their heat.  I’ve had the heat on for a couple weeks.

It happens every year without fail.

We live here in Vermont where many will comment that the weather is simply awful.  Much of the year it is cold, snowy, ice covered, windy, and for some us just miserable.  However there is nothing quite as wonderful as a summer in Vermont.  The results of my very NON-scientific study reports that during the summer people are at the beach, eating hot dogs, and simply enjoying summer, worries about winter’s cold are ignored.
